The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever
The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
